The Helen Parlon Memorial Scholarship has been made possible through a generous donation by Joanne Muti. Joanne, a former Walpole Selectman and the parent of a WST swimmer, graciously donated the monies remaining in her political campaign fund after she left office. Coach Cavanaugh and the Walpole Swim Team held a fundraiser on Saturday, July 26, 2003. This fundraiser benefited the Helen Parlon Scholarship Fund. Helen Parlon, who passed away in the winter of 2002, was a big part of the swim team, her first child having joined the team in 1976. The kids swam laps to raise money for this high school scholarship fund. Coach Cavanaugh thanks the town for continuing to help support this fund and making it a perpetual scholarship just as the Vlahos' scholarship is. We accomplished this by raising an additional $3,000.00. To make a donation, or for questions about the scholarship, contact the Walpole Scholarship Foundation, 3 West Street in Walpole.
